Outdoor Spaces

Walking in some of the neighborhoods near the Portland Streetcar, you'll find outdoor spaces that people have created for themselves ~ their own personal oasis in the city. Click here and it will take you to the Flickr photostream where you'll see a few others as well as other photos from the day...

Busking at SW 10th and Alder

Not the best violinist in the city but better than some. Held down a lucrative spot at the corner of SW 10th and Alder, smack in the middle of three blocks of food carts.

Playing for Django

Randy is playing the guitar and singing to Django, my chihuahua. He and David were among some of the people enjoying the sunny day at Jamison Square in the Pearl.

A Super-Relax team were learning a form of bocce on Friday night in the North Park Blocks. You can read more about the concept here. It looked like everyone was enjoying themselves immensely.

Concert in the Park

There's not much better in life than music and the outdoors. Combine them together and it's magic. This cello player also sang at tonight's concert in Wallace Park. They were wonderful and she was magical!!!

Mio Sushi Being Transformed

Mio Sushi is a long time restaurant on NW Johnson, just two blocks from the streetcar line. This morning when I walked by I could see that it was in a state of transformation. Mio is some of the best sushi, so I'm thinking this change will make it even better...

(Yikes this post must have gotten hung up somewhere. Anyway, it's for Wednesday...)

Storm Tharp on NW Glisan

An unusual image and reflection caused me to exit the streetcar at Everett and walk back two blocks. Storm Tharp's work is both unique and compelling. To view in person you'll need to call for an appointment...

Sunnies Inside the Streetcar

A quick trip on the Streetcar to Powell's Books in the Pearl. These two dudes got on together and seem to be having a sunglass stare off...

Sunday Options

The Northeast corner of Tanner Springs Park was still filled with people yesterday in the late afternoon. The sun streamed in from the west. People and dogs gathered. Some still napped on the lawn. Church services had been held earlier across the street. The end of another weekend in Portland...

Caterpillar Near the Streetcar

Walk two blocks east of the OHSU Streetcar stop and you'll meet this caterpillar. It hasn't moved much in 24 hours so there's still a chance it will be there tomorrow...

Tram or Streetcar

Those were the two choices for the photo for today. It was such a difficult decision, that I chose to use two instead. Both of these were taken with my iPhone 4G. The one of the tram was when I reached OHSU at the Waterfront (ran from home, about 4.25 miles). The streetcar was while I was waiting for Voice from the Couch to be released from his Physical Therapy appointment. Later we took the streetcar back to Marshall and 23rd.

Summer Bounty

Not far from the Portland Streetcar line you'll find the NW23rd Farmers Market. On Savier, you'll just need to progress through the alphabet from Marshall when you step off the streetcar. You know Northrup, Marshall, Overton, Pettygrove, Raleigh, and then lots of fun at Savier. (When I'm tired I sometimes go through the streets of San Francisco ~ Moraga, Noreiga, Ortega, Pacheco, Quintara, Rivera, Santiago...)

Behind the Curtain

Leverage is once again being filmed here in Portland Oregon... The series with Timothy Hutton has taken over the top two floors of the Center for Modern and Contemporary Art at the Portland Art Museum. To effect whatever affect the producers wanted black plastic has been put on the windows to the museum. One can only wonder what Timothy Hutton and his fellow actors are about behind that black draping.

World Cup ~ Portland Style

Here in Portland, thousands gathered in Pioneer Square to enjoy the World Cup 2010 between Spain and The Netherlands. While Iniesta's goal pushed Spain to its first Cup title, Portlanders were the big winners today. Not much else could be more fun than watching the best game around on a big screen set up in Portland's living room with temperatures never at the unbearably hot level. Even the portion of the crowd who backed The Netherlands left in an upbeat mood from this amazing group experience.

Teeth Cleaning and Breakfast

Pearl District Dental was my destination this morning at 7:00 am. At that hour there aren't very many people on the street (or in the dental office). However when I came out at 8:00 am, these two were having breakfast across the street at the Byways Cafe on NW Glisan. Since it was already heading to the low seventies, breakfast outside seemed like a great idea ~ not too cold, not too hot.

Waiting at Via Delizia

Don't look now but it was around 100 • today. That's way too hot for most of us to be out and about. We're taking a water break at Via Delizia, that great coffee shop and gelato shop on the corner of SW Marshall and 11th. We're across the street from Tanner Springs Park and would rather be there. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in that park so we can't go ... It looks really great so you should definitely go to Via Delizia and then drop over to the park for a picnic.

Motion Overruled

The Chihuahua Mafia and I ventured out in the heat today. Outside of Powell's Books, we came across this two volume edition of a compendium of lawyers put out by Martindale Hubbell. It would seem that the "Motion to Keep" had been overruled as well as the "Motion to Sell". Django had proposed a third motion having to do with his leg. I told him that out of respect he should just not...

Big Pink

Visible from anywhere on the streetcar line Big Pink is a landmark that will help you keep your bearings even without a compass.

Celebrating the Fourth

The Fourth of July brings out the fun and frolic in many here in Portland, including these horses so close to the streetcar line. Check out the Portland Mounted Police stables. They may be in jeopardy because of proposed budget cuts.

In Rembrance of the Lost Wetland...

For those of you visiting Tanner Springs Park there is one piece of blue glass in the fencing that honors the wetlands the park portrays.
