Memorial Day. Yes, it was and the day started at the waterfront with all of the flags honoring our fallen soldiers. Thought provoking on many levels. Several sets of images reside over there on Flickr. One is of the Golden Dragons and their paddle practice on the Willamette. The other two are here and here.

Window Washing
More often than not it seems that the Eliot, a condo building between 10th and 11th, is having its windows washed. Cleanliness is next to Godliness they say. For the rest of the images, click here...

Out of Service
This Portland Streetcar was literally out of service. One of the passengers had to be forcibly removed. An interesting end to a very long day ... for all of the images, click here.

Coffee with Kalmar
What could be better than suddenly finding yourself in line with the Music Director of the Oregon Symphony. Yes, there he was ordering coffee when I bopped in to have yet another cup. The man exudes energy at cosmic levels. When I first got in line, I only felt that there was some presence in the room that wasn't normally there. A quick scan and I almost said Carlos Kalmar out loud. Now, any number of people have suggested I should have said hello. But really, how many times do the famous need to have that happen? So I just took it all in and then later this opportunity to snap his portrait presented itself. All right there on the Portland Streetcar line. For all the images from today, click here.

Back in Portland
Back in Portland and while headed to the Portland Streetcar, I came across Human Bowling in the parking lot of the Fat Tire Farm. How great is that? For the other images from today, click here.

Buckman School Play
Buckman Elementary School is not on the Streetcar line (truth in blogging). Regular programming has been interrupted for this special report about the 2010 Fifth Grade Class play. We were invited by our neighbor's daughter-in-law to see her daughter perform. Since our neighbor wouldn't be in attendance, we felt it was important for someone of her grandmother's generation to be there. The entire play kept us rifted in our seats (except me who moved down front with the small children to be able to photograph a bit better). Here's Ava. At some point I'll have all of the other images from today and some more from the play ready for viewing. Check back for the link.
Delayed Post
Ah, it's Thursday, I somehow missed Wednesday because I thought Wednesday was Thursday. So if you've been waiting for Wednesday, here it is. He was waiting, too. If you ever find I haven't posted, please email me. Grazie!!!

Beethoven Festival ~ Night Number Three
These last three evenings with the Oregon Symphony have been exquisite. Arnaldo Cohen is an excellent musician. His skill is only matched with his rapport with the members of this orchestra. What a grand journey for all involved. One day these years will be called the Golden Ones. Thank you members of the orchestra and Carlos Kalmar for making it so!!! For all the images from today, click here.

Regular Programming Interrupted Momentarily
Django requested equal time with the Radio Flyer Chihuahuas. Here's a shot of him and Tembo on their Dog Mountain Hike in the Columbia Gorge. Great fun for all going that 7 miles with about 2850 feet of elevation gain. Your friendly blogger ended the day at the Beetovhen Festival. To see all of the images including ones where Django says his eyes haven't been blinded by the sun, click here.

Chihuahuas Riding in Style
Although I have several comments about this, I'll just say that Django was mystified with why two of his compadres would be allowing themselves to be pulled instead of walking and sniffing and leaving call cards. NW 23rd has reopened to vehicle traffic. Combined with the outrageously glorious day, the street was covered with people and dogs.

Opera ~ Channeling Cher and Nicholas Cage
Voice from the Couch and I went to the opera tonight. Thankfully I didn't see my father with or without his paramours. And I'm not Cher and he's not Nicholas Cage but I did feel very special going to the Keller even though it wasn't in NYC. Life is where you are, treasure it. Truth in blogging, this is three blocks from the streetcar and we caught it on Harrison. The operator was most gracious. Thank you the city of Portland and all of the Trimet operators. For more Keller photos, click here.

Coffee at Barista
There's a technical term for these glass implements at the coffee bar in the Barista shop. At almost midnight it escapes me. Taken at the request of Badbeard himself ~ that would be the cello playing coffee roaster/coffee roasting cellist shown over there in the right column.

Irises on Mother's Day
Ah, irises. They're such a beautiful flower and I came across this grouping on my walk today. Who knew, but irises supposedly were Claude Monet's favorite flower.

Sleeping Along the Streetcar Line
Hopefully she won't be sleeping on NW 11th Avenue next to the Portland Streetcar line or anywhere other than a clean safe room tonight.

Patagonia
Check out that central window in this enclosure. You could put your head through and say hello to the employees and customers in Patagonia. Today had the promise to be the number one day of the year, but never quite made it. I wonder where that window went...
