Night Lights on NW Marshall

Another night shot, this time on NW Marshall just one block from the streetcar line. Those trees are all decked out in their night time splendor for us to enjoy. Their day time finery is coming in nicely, too. Check out those leaves! For all of the images from today, click here

From the Roof

I took any number of photos from one of the roofs along the Streetcar line here in downtown Portland. What a great vantage point. Here's one. The rest of the images will be posted tomorrow. Need rest, just returned from a Timbers soccer match. (And now there available, click here)

We were there tonight and his performance was stellar!

Spella Caffe

The best coffee served in Portland, Oregon comes from this "caffe" on SW Alder and 9th!

Reflections at Isabel's Cantina

The reflection from this slanted window will stop you in your tracks if you're headed north along NW 10th just before Flanders. For the rest of the images from today, click here.

Trumpet Player in the Park

We were treated to the last portion of this musician's practice time in the park on Overton just north of the streetcar line on Northrup. The dogs were oblivious but we were most appreciative. For the rest of the images from today, click here.

Reading in the Sun ~ Tanner Springs Park

I've been reading about Andre Kertesz, the Hungarian born photographer, who fled the advancing Nazi regime and eventually settled in this country. One of his life-long themes was reading (more info here) and now I'm finding myself shooting images of people reading. For the other images from today can be see by clicking here.

Red Bench Removal

For years this red bench has been in front of the building on NW Davis that at one time housed Lawrence Gallery. That business recently moved from the Pearl District and this red bench was left behind ~ at least until today. Only time will tell what will move into the building. For the other images from today, including a rather stylish vintage hat, click here.

Window View ~ Cutouts

Walking along NW 11th you're able to see this window on the east side of the street. The display changes, not necessarily regularly but always with interesting images. For all of the images today, click here.

Clearheaded

If you ever want to clear your head you could try using these headphones. They're available in a store on SW 10th across from Martinotti's along the streetcar line. For all of the images from today, click here.

NW 23rd and Lovejoy ~ Who Will Be the New Tenant?

For years, this store front at the southeast corner of NW 23rd and Lovejoy had been home to Kinko's then Kinko's/Fed Ex and then Fed Ex Office. Recently FedEx moved up the street to NW 23rd and Glisan. Today I noticed the interior demolition work. I'm thinking either a bank or a restaurant will be the next tenant.

Tanner Springs Park

Just exactly where I would have liked to have been today. Much to do though so no meditating in the sun for me. We did take the Streetcar and then walked the Chihuahua Mafia home. A great day out there! It was good to be back from my trip south. For all of the images from today, click here.

Lincoln at Night

South Park Blocks at night. Near the Streetcar. Didn't take it, just near there picking up Voice from the Couch after the Oregon Symphony performance this evening. My reward for driving downtown after driving 11 hours was the chance to take night photos. To see the other two, click here. They're not of Lincoln...

Another Locale

Yes, I'm once again not in Portland. So the question becomes what to post after a long day driving and then grocery shopping and then cooking. Hmmm, Mt. Shasta Lake where I took a nap driving down? The rest stop with the Harley Davidson? Or the green hills outside of Winters... Yes the green hills. Rounded and sensual, they're worthy of drawing, painting and photography.

Reflected Light

Walking to the museum today from the streetcar over on SW 11th, I came face to face with this abstract light dancing on the wall of the Hoffman Wing of the Portland Art Museum. Although the trees are leafing out, the Heritage Elm near the YWCA is running a bit behind. In a few weeks it will be in its groove and we'll have a wonderful canopy on 10th protecting us from the sun. It's hard to imagine when it's raining like it does in Portland that you'd want some shade, but it's true. Come the summer, that elm is a blessing... For all of the images from today, click here.

Ladder Truck on the Streetcar Line

Whatever the reason for this ladder truck from House 4 here in Portland to be at the residence building between Salmon and Main on SW 10th, it was just leaving as I came around the corner. Ladder trucks are so imposing. Tomorrow will be my last day in Portland until next Tuesday. We'll see what substitute geography I'll be taking images of and posting here. I walked several streets near the streetcar line today and posted images of shop windows and people over on Flickr, click here. See you tomorrow.

Classic Portland

Look closely around Portland and you'll find wisteria leafing out with red maples already there. Come back to that wisteria in several months and you'll not recognize those branches even if you can see them. For all of the images from today, click here.

Floating Umbrella

This umbrella seems to be floating along on its own down rainy, wet SW Morrison, here in Portland. The windows you see across the way are Nordstroms. The orange u-shape is a reflection of art work just to my right. And then there's the base of the tree coming right up through the u. Over to the right is a small circle with the word "PULL" on it. All of that packed into one small image. For all of the images, click here.

Sunday

When you're feeling a little down and wishing that you were somewhere else, take the streetcar and pop off at NW 18th and Northrup. Head south towards Lovejoy and walk by this wall. It's primarily yellow with a blue band around it's base, a blue door and blue trim around the windows. What's not to like about the classic blue and yellow of provincial France? Combine those primaries and you'll get the green of the perennials planted in the strip next to the sidewalk. You'll leave smiling and can catch the streetcar on Lovejoy and go back to wherever you came much happier than when you arrived. For the rest of the images from today click here.

Where the Streetcar Will Take You...

Take the streetcar and you'll be dropped within blocks of an Apple Store in downtown Portland. The store is in Pioneer Place and today was the iPad launch day. So what better way to get your reserved iPad than to take the streetcar to pick it up. Here's Voice from the Couch (see Fifty Two Pieces) being handed his iPad. The time was 9:30 am. Considering there were at least 250 people in line in front of us when we arrived at 8:15 and the doors didn't open until 9:00 am, that was a fairly short wait. The service provided by Apple is top-notch, almost unsurpassed. And the iPad is phenomenal. Voice has let me use it, but he does keep it on a short leash so I will always have to ask!!!

Familiar Sight

This is a familiar sight ~ large plastic bag filled with cans. Where is the man with the cans going. Safeway is just a block and a half from this passageway between SW 10th and 11th along the streetcar line. It's one of two major drop-off points for can recyclers. The other location is also a Safeway and it's at Lovejoy and 13th, on the northern end of the line. For all of the images from the day, go here...
